East Coast Classic 2009

Hello everyone and welcome to the first edition of the Sinbad Classic Newsletter. The introduction of the newsletter was chosen so that we have a way of keeping in touch with all of you while everyone waits for the forthcoming events. You haven’t misread that by the way. I did say events!

As many of you would have noticed 2008 brought with it a host of changes to the event. We have also decided that the changes shouldn’t stop there so we will be adding to the Middle East Fishing Tournament Schedule with events in Fujairah (January 2009) and Salalah (March-April 2009) to form the ‘Middle East Sinbad Series’.

The Fujairah event will be hosted by the Le Meridien Al Aqah, where we will all be enjoying a fantastic final evening prize giving, preferential rates for rooms (on availability), transport to and from the Marina each morning and night and absolutely superb hospitality throughout.

We are extremely excited to be running the Fujairah event and we reckon that it will be a superb event. The event will be called the East Coast Classic and will run from the 29-31 January with the skippers briefing being on the evening of the 28th at the Le Meridien Al Aqah hotel.

Sinbad Classic 2009

The Sinbad Classic will run from the 26-28 February in 2009. We are confident that the 2009 running of the Sinbad Classic is going to be bigger and better than before with the introduction of a new format, great prizes and new ideas.

We would like to once again take a moment to thank all of our sponsors from the 2008 event especially our title sponsors ART Marine from Dubai and Riviera Yachts. Please take a moment to check out their website; http://www.artmarine.net/ as well as all our other amazing sponsors from the Sinbad Classic. Without these guys we wouldn't be able to run the event.

We would also like to congratulate all the winners from the 2008 event. Our 1st prize winners team Sidab will be winging it to Cape Town, South Africa in October for 8 days to enjoy some great fishing off the legendary Cape Point! For more info on Cape Town check out http://www.tourismcapetown.co.za/

After the success of the 2008 event and the fantastic exposure we generated through the media and foreign coverage little did we expect that more great news was about to follow; our winning team from the 2007 event, Team Nomad, jetted off to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for the 2008 offshore world championships determined to make the event and Oman proud. This they did! After day one of the championships Team Sinbad Classic, Sultanate of Oman, were in second place with a fantastic haul of six marlin, caught and released, and at the end of day two, they were in joint 1st position, with 3 more marlin caught and released! Come day four they had unfortunately slipped down the order and finished an amazing 9th place out of 63 competing teams representing 27 countries around the world!

Sinbad Billfish Bonanza 2009

For 2009 we have decided to add a special event to the calendar, with the introduction of the Sinbad Billfish Bonanza. Now this is no ordinary event mind you as we are sure you can see by the name. It is a dedicated Catch ‘n Release Billfish Tournament. The event will be held in Salalah at the end of March, beginning of April when the Billfish stocks are at their most productive in the region. With Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin and Sailfish on offer, together with some giant tuna, this event should be one not to be missed.

The event format though is going to be a completely different one, with entrance fees being charged per boat rather than per angler. The entrance fees will be $40k per boat with a winner takes all first prize of $150k!!! There will also be daily Calcutta’s to be entered into and won so make sure that you don’t miss this massive event. The event will be limited to 20 boats and will be on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

Stay tuned to the newsletters as we will update you on the event as we are working on getting the infrastructure needed in Salalah before the event can happen.

So that is it for the first edition of the all new Sinbad Newsletter but it most certainly won’t be the last! For more information on these events or to find out how you can become a sponsor please email jassim@intevents.com

We look forward to seeing you all again soon and wish you all the best for the rest of the year!

Tight Lines!
